FOF is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1987 and incorporated in 1997. Our patron is David Fleay’s daughter, Rosemary Fleay-Thomson.
Its members consist of active volunteers and those who share our vision and wish to support the Park’s activities. Members have special privileges and range in age from children to octogenarians.
Recent examples of activities and projects include:
- construction and maintenance of enclosures for display or research purposes e.g. aviaries, butterfly display enclosure, Northern Wombat housing
- tree sponsorship program for Koala food tree plantation
- sale of chocolates to provide money for Bilby breeding and release program
- planting and maintenance of special vine habitat for threatened Richmond Birdwing Butterfly
- contributing to the refurbishing of David Fleay’s heritage-listed platypusary
- providing a tank home for a frog display.
FoF has applied successfully for a number of grants. In 2009 these include:
- a mobile educational display, featuring the work of Phantast artists, and funded by the Gambling Community Benefit Fund;
- the reprinting of David Fleay’s book Paradoxical Platypus, funded by the Queensland Government through the Q150 Community Funding Program.
The FoF has a dedicated Conservation Fund. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
